Jeanette Marie Cardinal was a 40-year-old mother of five children. She moved to Edmonton in late 2010 from Slave Lake, Alberta. On February 7, 2011, the Beaver Lake Cree Nation woman’s body was discovered by a repairman inside her eldest daughter’s apartment. Early in the investigation, the Edmonton Police Service announced Cardinal’s death was a homicide and had a suspect in mind. In 2016, a 38-year-old man was charged with second-degree murder in connection with her death.
